Letter from A. V. Comben to Mr. Graham Allen, dated 19 July 1996:
I am replying to your Question to the Secretary of State for Defence about the Ministry of Defence Police at Chilwell/Chetwynd Barracks, as it falls into the area of responsibility of the Chief Constable and, in his absence on duty, I am responding on his behalf. The MOD establishment at Chilwell was renamed Chetwynd Barracks on 10 June 1995. Currently some 300 civilians are employed by the Ministry at the site and there are about 550 Service dependants in the Quarters there. At weekends there are approximately 300 Regular and Territorial Army soldiers additionally accommodated at the Barracks. Visitors to the site vary in number and include members of the public, MOD employees from other sites and contractors, who are estimated to total around 150 each week. The Ministry of Defence Police could come into contact with all of these people as the officers go about their various duties. Records are not kept of every contact between MDP and other individuals.
