To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will list the percentages of students in further education who received student financial support in the form of(a) discretionary awards, (b) mandatory awards and (c) educational maintenance allowances in each of the last three years. The information is not available in the form requested. Available information is that 6 per cent., 9 per cent. and 11 per cent. of students in further-education institutions received mandatory awards in the years 1993–94 to 1995–96 respectively.

Information on the percentages who received discretionary awards and educational maintenance allowances could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.
