To ask the President of the Board of Trade what was the United Kingdom percentage share of world trade in(a) exports and (b) imports in 1979 and 1995; and if he will make a statement. [36088]

Mr. Nelson

The United Kingdom share of world exports of goods was 4.8 per cent. in 1995 compared with 5.7 per cent. in 1979. Comparable figures for imports are 6.4 per cent. in 1979 and 5.1 per cent. in 1995.
