Mr. Blunkett

To ask the President of the Board of Trade, pursuant to the UK skills audit survey of multinationals, if he will list the average weighted skill level in the USA, Singapore, Japan, Germany, France and the UK, in respect of(a) numeracy, (b) ability to learn, (c) team working, (d) information technology, (e) technical, inlcuding occupation specific, (f) communication and (g) intellectual skills for the work force at all levels. The following table shows the average weighted skill level of the work force at all levels for the skills and countries covered in the "Skills Audit Survey of Multinationals". These figures have been estimated by assigning the following weights to the responses: good 4, adequate 2 and poor 1 and then combining the weighted responses to calculate the average weighted skill level for each skill in each country.
