HC Deb 17 July 1996 vol 281 c571W
30. Mr. Hutton

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what proportion of the United Kingdom's gross domestic product is spent on research and development. [36097]

Mr. Ian Taylor

The UK's gross expenditure on R and D in 1994—the latest year for which figures are available—was 2.2 per cent. of GDP, as set out in "Science, Engineering and Technology Statistics 1996", a copy of which is held in the Library of the House.
