Miss Widdecombe

Responsibility for this matter has been delegated to the Director General of the Prison Service, who has been asked to arrange for a reply to be given.

Letter from Richard Tilt to Mr. Gordon Prentice, dated 11 July 1996: The Home Secretary has asked me to reply to your recent Question about how much he intends to spend on prison security to bring security up to minimum standards. A decision has not been reached on the minimum security standards which should apply to all prison establishments in England and Wales. The cost of any minimum standards will be considered as the standards are developed.
