HC Deb 08 July 1996 vol 281 cc46-7W
Mr. Win Griffiths

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list for each training and enterprise council the percentage of their resources in cash or in kind drawn from private sources. [34819]

Mr. Jonathan Evans

As the information requested will take some time to collate, I will write to the hon. Member as soon as possible and place a copy of my reply in the Library of the House.

Mr. Griffiths

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how much money is provided for each training and enterprise council in Wales; what percentage of it is spent on training; and how many trainees(a) start and (b) complete TEC financed courses. [34820]

Mr. Evans

The information requested is shown in the table:

TEC (i) TEC expenditure (ii) Percentage spent on training (iii) Total number of starts (iv) Percentage TEC financed Youth training/youth credit (v) Completing courses Training for work
Gwent 16,265,938 63 5,769 43 65
Mid Glamorgan 16,468,989 67 6,391 47 54
North-East Wales 10,330,623 62 3,167 55 61

Wales 101,843,190 65 31,905 48 59

Source of data:

(i) and (ii) 1995–96 invoice monitoring; (iii) 1995–96 management information; (iv) and (v) DfEE YT/YC and TfW National Follow-up Surveys for 1994–95 (the latest full year for which information is available).

Notes:

1 Figures not available because responses to the follow-up survey in Powys were insufficient to be statistically reliable.

1. The percentage completion rates relate to the overall starts figures provided and are not adjusted for circumstances in which some trainees (i) switch from one training course to another during the course of their training without having completed the original course or (iii) leave training having achieved a full or part qualification but without fully completing their training plans.

The data needed to provide such an adjustment is not available centrally.

Mr. Griffiths

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many staff are employed by each training and enterprise council through funds allocated under Government contracts; and what proportion of them are involved in(a) enterprise, (b) training and (c) administration. [34850]

Mr. Evans

The following table shows the number of staff employed by each training and enterprise council, extracted from TEC annual statutory accounts for 1994–. 94—latest available.
