§ Mr. HanleyMy right hon. and noble Friend Baroness Chalker has recently had talks with the Prime Minister, the Secretary General of the MPLA and the Angolan army chief of staff. The Minister saw Dr. Savimbi during her visit to Angola in February. The British ambassador in Luanda is in frequent contact with senior representatives of the Lusaka signatories. At every opportunity we continue to press for an early and successful conclusion to the peace process.

§ Mr. HanleyWe are aware of complaints by UNITA about conditions in some of the quartering areas. These are the responsibility of the United Nations authorities who monitor the situation on the ground. Our embassy in Luanda is in touch with the relevant organisations.
