HC Deb 26 January 1996 vol 270 cc453-4W
Mr. Watson

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what plans he has to require the provision of resource material relating to leaving home education as part of the social development programme in schools. [11177]

Mr. Raymond S. Robertson

The Government have no plans to require the provision of such material.

In 1993, the Scottish Office education department published national guidelines on personal and social development 5–14. Among other things the aims of this document include helping pupils to develop life skills to enable them to participate effectively and safely in society and to take increasing responsibility for their own lives. This document provides a basis for school managers to include leaving home education in the curriculum if they should consider it to be appropriate for their schools.
