To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list by species the number of licences issued in 1995 under the terms of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 for the destruction of wild birds; and how many birds were killed in each case. [10152]

Details of licences issued under section 16 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 are contained in reports by the Untied Kingdom to the European Community on derogations under article 9 of the directive on the conservation of wild birds (79/409/EEC). The latest report for which figures are available covers 1994. Figures are not yet available for 1995, but when the report has been prepared a copy will be placed in the Library of the House.
