To ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster (1) how many serving civil servants are involved in the scheme to improve links with industry; [8761]

(2) how many serving civil servants involved in the scheme to improve links with industry are acting as non-executive directors; which companies are involved; and to what extent civil servants acting as non-executive directors receive payments from the companies concerned. [8762]

There are several different interchange schemes with industry and commerce, including secondments, short-term attachments, non-executive opportunities and joint training programmes. In 1995, over 600 civil servants participated in these schemes.

In 1995, 57 civil servants held non-executive appointments within private sector companies. The companies involved are as follows:
