HC Deb 15 January 1996 vol 269 c400W
Mr. Austin-Walker

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what estimate he has made of the changes in distance travelled by passengers by bus and rail since 1979; and what assessment he has made of the figures for(a) the United States and (b) other countries in Western Europe. [9155]

Mr. Norris

Since 1979 travel in Great Britain by bus and coach has decreased by 12 per cent. while that by rail is virtually unchanged. Statistics for international companies are not available in the form requested because data are collected on a differing basis in each country.
