To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what steps the railway inspectorate of the Health and Safety Executive is taking to ensure the safety of platform gaps at Birmingham New Street station. [8959]

Railtrack and train operators are responsible for safety at this station.

The Health and Safety Executive's railway inspectorate monitors the actions of Railtrack and the train operators to ensure that an acceptable level of safety is maintained.
