§ Mr. JackThe shares of direct taxes and VAT in total taxes and national insurance contributions were 55 per cent. and 18 per cent., respectively, in financial year 1994–95. Comparable figures for 1979–80 were 56 per cent. and 12 per cent.
The share of income tax has fallen from 29 per cent. to 27 per cent. over the same period.
