To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many additional inmate places he expects will be available for use by the end of 1996 at Her Majesty's prison New Hall, Wakefield. [8329]

Responsibility for this matter has been delegated to the temporary Director General of the Prison Service, who has been asked to arrange for a reply to be given.

Letter from Richard Tilt to Mr. Martin Redmond, dated 11 January 1996: The Home Secretary has asked me to reply to your recent Question about New Hall prison. The Prison Service has no plans at present to increase the number of places at New Hall by the end of 1996.
