Mr. Spearing

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment what representations she has received from(a) organisations representative of (i) parents and (ii) school governors, (b) denominational bodies, (c) organisations representing voluntary-aided schools and (d)other bodies, in respect of simplified procedures for obtaining grant-maintained school status without balloting parents of pupils currently in attendance at schools. The Department's consultation paper, "Self-Government for Voluntary Aided Schools", set out a number of possibilities for giving voluntary-aided schools only easier access to self-government. My right hon. Friend received the following responses:
