To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how much was raised through the levying of prescriptions charged by each health board in Scotland in each financial year since 1979–80. [6155]

[holding answer 14 December 1995]: The information for each health board for the financial years 1979–80 to 1994–95 is set out in the table below. The table shows NHS receipts from prescription charges paid by patients in respect of drugs and appliances and prescription charges recovered from patients under health board post-dispensing checking arrangements.

The purchase of prescription pre-payments certificates is not deemed to be the payment of a charge under the NHS (Charges for Drugs and Appliances) (Scotland) Regulations 1989, as amended. These receipts are therefore not shown.
