HC Deb 09 January 1996 vol 269 c89W
Mr. Bayley

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will estimate the number of PEP holders with total PEP investment in excess of(a) £20,000, (b) £30,000, (c) £40,000, (d) £50,000 and (e) £70,000, giving in each case an estimate of the cost of (i) income and (ii) capital gains tax relief in a full year on those investments. [7066]

Mr. Jack

Total tax relief for personal equity plans is provisionally estimated at £425 million for 1995–96, comprising £275 million of income tax relief and some £150 million of capital gains tax relief.

I regret that the distributions of number of investors and cost of tax relief by size of total PEP investment are not available.
