5. Families without any paid work are assumed to have no income other than Income Support, Housing Benefit (where appropriate), Council Tax Benefit, Child Benefit and, for the lone parent examples, One Parent Benefit.
6. Examples for families in part-time paid work assume earnings are for 16–29 hours per week.
7. Examples for families in full-time paid work assume that earnings are for 30 or more hours per week.
8. Examples for couples where both partners are in full-time work assume that total gross household earnings are at the levels specified in the question and that earnings and married couple's tax allowance are apportioned equally between both partners. Examples where one partner works full-time and one part-time assume that part-time earnings are £50 per week and that the full-time earner receives the married couple's tax allowance. This assumption means that where total gross household earnings are £80 or £90, part-time earnings will exceed full-time earnings. Different allocations of earnings may result in different gross and net incomes.
