HL Deb 09 January 1996 vol 568 c25WA
The Countess of Mar

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they consider the effects of ingredients, other than the active ingredients, in organophosphate pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides and veterinary medicines when these ingredients may in themselves be toxic or they may have synergistic or potentiating properties which alter the effect of the active ingredients.

Lord Lucas

Assessment of data submitted by an applicant for a marketing authorisation for a veterinary medicinal or pesticide product is carried out against statutory scientific criteria including safety and efficacy, before advice is given on whether an authorisation for that product should be granted. This includes consideration of whether any individual ingredient in the formulation could have a synergistic or potentiating effect on the active ingredient in the finished product.
