HC Deb 09 January 1996 vol 269 c47W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what web site his Department maintains on the Internet; what information is provided there; how often it is updated; what is the address; and if he or his Department answers questions and supplies additional information through the Internet. [7576]

Mr. Norris

My Department publishes information via the CCTA Government information service site at http://www.open.gov.uk. and the Central Office of Information site. Information is updated when changes or additions occur.

The Department's press releases and, separately, those of the Driving Standards Agency are available via the COI at http://www.coi.gov.uk/coi/depts/GDT/GDT.html and GDS/GDS.html respectively. The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency publishes guidance on all aspects of driver and road vehicle registration and licensing, purchase of cherished marks and registration of small ships, on the GIS site at/dvla/dvla.htm. The Marine Accident Investigation Branch's summary of investigations is available at/maib/maibhome.htm. The Highways Agency's business plan for 1995–96 is available at/hiagency/highhome.htm. The overseas section of the Transport Research Laboratory has a home page on the "One World Online"service—http://www.oneworld.org/tr1/—outlining the work it carries out for developing countries under the aegis of the Overseas Development Agency. My Department intends to mount early next year a home page on the GIS site, providing links to the above pages and other Departmental information.

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State has an official Internet e-mail address—sofs.transport@gtnet.gov.uk. The Transport Research Laboratory can communicate via e-mail: its customer services section is at tricial@bdu.trl.co.uk, its overseas section at lindap@o.trl.co.uk and its library at library enquiries@lib.trl.co.uk.
