Ms Roseanna Cunningham

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what are(a) the current number of radioactive hotspots identified around the Dounreay facility since the Atomic Energy Authority began its investigation, (b) the dates on which they were discovered and (c) the dates on which Atomic Energy Authority Dounreay management informed the Scottish Office of the presence of each hotspot. [7256]

Mr. Page

[holding answer 20 December 1995]: I refer the hon. Member to the answer given by my hon. Friend the then Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Scotland to a question from my hon. Friend the Member for Aberdeen, South (Mr. Robertson) on 13 June 1995, Official Report, column 472 and the answer that I gave to the hon. Member for Don Valley (Mr. Redmond) on 24 October 1995, Official Report, column 525. Since the joint COMARE RWMAC report, which noted that 143 particles had been found on either the Dounreay foreshore, the Dounreay site or Sandside beach, was published, I understand that a further 10 particles have been found on the Dounreay foreshore. Her Majesty's industrial pollution inspectorate has been kept informed of the results of the UKAEA's investigations into radioactive particles around the Dounreay facility on a regular basis.
