HC Deb 29 February 1996 vol 272 c658W
Ms Jowell

To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department what steps his Department is taking to collect statistics broken down by gender where relevant. [17686]

Mr. Jonathan Evans

This answer refers to the Lord Chancellor's Department, Court Service and Public Trust Office. Statistics collected by the Department and the two agencies referred to are aimed at improving decision making, stimulating research and informing debate within government and the wider community. Where statistics broken down by gender are relevant to this purpose, the Department will consider them when deciding or reviewing what to collect. Currently, the Department collects statistics broken down by gender on, for example, public and judicial appointments made by the Lord Chancellor or on his recommendation.
