To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will list all cases brought under fair employment legislation against(a) a Government Department and (b) a public body, indicating in each case the costs incurred in defending such action. [15150]

The number of cases registered with the fair employment tribunal under the Fair Employment Act (Northern Ireland) 1989 against(a) Government Departments and (b) public bodies is as follows:

  2. 11 completed
  3. 31 withdrawn 33 on-going.

  2. 46 completed
  3. 49 withdrawn
  4. 50 on-going.
1This excludes public bodies for which the Department of Health and Social Services is responsible.

Information on the costs incurred in defending these cases is not held centrally and could be provided only at disproportionate cost.
