To ask the Secretary of State for Transport how many passenger trains run along the Catford loop line in both directions, in any 24-hour period between Monday and Friday, and Saturday and Sunday; and at what times these trains are travelling along the Catford loop line. [18197]

Mr. Norris

The number of passenger trains scheduled to travel over the Catford loop line is as follows:

London direction:

  • Mondays to Fridays-42
  • Saturdays-34
  • Sundays-17.

Bromley South direction:

  • Mondays to Fridays-41
  • Saturdays-36
  • Sundays-16.

In addition, the line may be used by empty passenger trains and also those diverted because of engineering works or operating difficulties. The time of all the scheduled services are to be found in the "Great Britain Passenger Railway Timetable".

Mr. Norris

The number of freight trains that run along the Catford loop in either direction is as follows:

Monday to Friday

  • Up to 29 trains per day moving towards London distributed throughout the 24 hours.
  • Up to 32 trains per day moving away from London distributed throughout the 24 hours.

Saturday

  • Up to 16 trains per day moving towards London distributed throughout the 24 hours.
  • Up to 22 trains per day moving away from London distributed throughout the 24 hours.

Sunday

  • Up to 16 trains per day moving towards London distributed throughout the 24 hours.
  • Up to 2 trains per day moving away from London distributed throughout the 24 hours.

There may be additional or replacement services to run as a result of the need for track maintenance or for diversions.
