To ask the Secretary of State for Wales when the construction on the A470 extension of the Cardiff to Merthyr trunk road to the A465 Heads of the Valleys road to Cefn Coed is expected to be completed; and if he will make a statement. [17562]

Mr. Gwilym Jones

The Pentrebach to Cefn Coed scheme, which extends the improvement of the A470 to the A465, is expected to be completed in spring 1997.

The Pentrebach to Cefn Coed scheme, which extends the improvement of the A470 to the A465, comprises two contracts. The main contractors areSouthern Section (Pentrebach to Swansea Road)—Taylor Woodrow Civil Engineering Ltd. Northern Section (Swansea Road to Cefn Coed)—Christiani and Nielsen Ltd.
