HC Deb 28 February 1996 vol 272 cc571-2W
Mr. Jon Owen Jones

To ask the President of the Board of Trade, pursuant to his answer of 19 February,Official Report, column 42, when he intends to make a precise judgment on the impact of a single European currency on United Kingdom trade. [16970]

Mr. Oppenheim

The United Kingdom will agree to take part in a single currency only if it is in our national interest to do so, given the circumstances at the time. A full assessment of the benefits and disadvantages will be carried out nearer the time, before the decision is made.
