§ Mr. ForthResponsibility for the subject of the question has been delegated to the Employment Services Agency under its chief executive. I have asked him to arrange for a reply to be given.
Letter from Mike Fogden to Mr. Ieuan Wyn Jones, dated 28 February 1996:
The Secretary of State has asked me to reply to your question about what plans there are to establish further Jobcentres in Wales in areas of high unemployment.
579WThe Employment Service (ES) is, through its integration programme, creating a national network of around 1100 new style Jobcentres which will bring Jobcentres and Benefit Offices together under one roof to provide a one stop employment service to help people back to work.
The new ES Jobcentres provide an improved service to clients, giving them easier access to the full range of services.
The integration programme in Wales has been completed providing 102 one stop Jobcentres to help unemployed people back into employment.
There are no plans at present to increase the number of Jobcentres in Wales. However, the provision and location of Jobcentre services are subject to regular review.
I hope this is helpful.
