To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what policies he is pursuing in respect of failing schools in Scotland. [15823]

Examples of the policies we are following to raise standards and improve quality include:

  1. inspection by HM inspectors of schools with appropriate and systematic follow-up;
    2. 598
  2. the requirement on all schools to draw up school development plans; and
  3. the publication of extensive information for parents on schools' performance.
