HC Deb 28 February 1996 vol 272 c531W
Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list the officials in his Department who have declared a current interest; what requirements are placed on officials to declare relevant interests; in what form records of such declarations are kept; and if he will establish a central register of officials' interest. [16882]

Mr. Howard

Standing guidance to staff requires that anyone who is faced with a conflict of interest must declare that interest to senior management so that the latter can determine how best to proceed. Staff who disclose relevant interests do so on the understanding that the declaration, like all employment matters, is confidential between them and their employer. No comprehensive central record of declarations of interests or holdings is kept in my Department and I have no plans to establish such a register.
