§ Lord James Douglas-Hamilton[holding answer 26 February 1996]: The services provided by the artificial limb and appliance centres—ALACs—which includes the wheelchair service, are at present funded centrally by the national services division, NSD, of the common services agency. A review of the service currently under way recommended that funding of this service should be devolved to health boards from 1 April 1996. This recommendation was accepted and notification of the notional allocation for each board was included in the financial allocations for 1996–97.
