HC Deb 22 February 1996 vol 272 c242W
Mr. Jopling

To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department on how many occasions appeals by former officers in the armed services were heard by war disability pension tribunals in Newcastle in each of the last three years; how many cases were heard on each occasion; how many sittings he expects in 1996; and where else such hearings of this sort are heard in the north of England. [15465]

Mr. Jonathan Evans

The information requested is as follows:

Year Tribunal sittings at Newcastle Officer cases heard on each occasion
1993 2 1
1994 2 4
1995 1 5

The level of sittings at Newcastle depends on the number of appeals due to be heard there. There are currently five outstanding officer cases at Newcastle and at the present rate of such appeals the pensions appeal tribunals expect to arrange two sitting days at Newcastle in 1996.

Officer cases are also heard at the following venues in the north of England: Chester, Leeds, Manchester and Middlesbrough.
