To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what assessment he has made of the impact on Welsh firms of late payment by Government Departments. [16186]

Mr. Gwilym Jones

In 1995–96, the Welsh Office paid 95 per cent. of its bills within the normal 30-day period or the contract terms. Except where the invoice is disputed, the remainder will have been paid shortly thereafter.
