HC Deb 22 February 1996 vol 272 c269W
Mr. McFall

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will conduct an inquiry into the actions of the Crown Office and Prison Service in respect of court proceedings following disturbances at Glenochil prison. [15441]

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

My noble and learned Friend the Lord Advocate has considered a report from the trial advocate depute. He is satisfied that the decision to prosecute those charged with involvement in the riot at Glenochil prison on 4 and 5 January 1994 was correct and that the trial was conducted properly. The Crown Office and the Scottish Prison Service are examining whether this case has implications for the handling of future cases.
