§ Mr. LangI continue to receive numerous representations about the European social chapter during my contacts with industry. The overwhelming view is that acceptance of the social chapter would seriously damage competitiveness and employment because it would allow the United Kingdom to be outvoted on measures imposing unnecessary burdens and costs on businesses.
