To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what estimates he has made of the costs of transporting low value, high bulk goods over long distances(a) by road and (b) by rail. [14981]

My Department makes such estimates when assessing applications for the grants which are available to encourage freight to be moved by rail rather than road transport.
