Mr. Robert Ainsworth

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what is his yield from employers class 1A national insurance contributions on(a) company cars and (b) fuel for the year 1996–97. [13773]

Mr. Heald

The latest estimate for the total class 1A receipts to the national insurance fund in 1996–97 from both company cars and fuel is £439 million. Of that total £379 million is attributable to cars and £60 million to fuel.
