Mr. Donohoe

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many cases of asthma have been diagnosed in each health board area in Scotland in each year since 1979. [12512]

Available information relates to in-patient and day case discharges from hospitals and excludes patients treated by general practitioners and in hospital out-patient and accident and emergency departments.

Details of numbers of discharges, by health board of residence, with a principal diagnosis of asthma, is shown in the table for calendar years 1979 to 1994. The figures for 1995 are not yet available.
