To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list the occasions on which the previous Director General of the Prison Service brought to his attention the conditions at Her Majesty's prison Holloway. [8129]

I had regular discussions with the previous Director General of the Prison Service on a wide range of matters. The conditions at Holloway were raised during our discussions.

Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what complaints or reports have been received regarding insect infestation in Holloway's mother and baby unit in the last year; and if he will make a statement. [12312]

Responsibility for this matter has been delegated to the temporary Director General of the Prison Service, who has been asked to arrange for a reply to be given.

Letter from Richard Tilt to Mr. Harry Cohen, dated 2 February 1996: The Home Secretary has asked me to reply to your recent Question asking what complaints have been received about the Holloway Mother and Baby Unit in 1995. There were two reports about infestation in the Mother and Baby Unit at Holloway recorded in 1995.

  • 1995: 324 (253 female/71 male)
