- 1990–91: 2,609,509
- 1991–92: 3,045,456
- 1992–93: 3,305,699
- 1993–94: 3,500,402
- 1994–95: 3,512,451
- 1995–96: 3,469,368.
It is not possible to identify separately applications for legal aid received from Darlington; these applications are dealt with by the Legal Aid Board area office in Newcastle, which covers the country from North Yorkshire to Northumberland and parts of Cumbria.
