HC Deb 18 December 1996 vol 287 c682W
Mr. Donohoe

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what research his Department has carried out to identify the reasons for changes in the number of food poisoning cases in Scotland over the last 10 years; and what the results of this research have been. [7430]

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

Food poisoning is caused by a number of different agents including bacteria and a wide range of research projects have been funded by the Scottish Office over the last 10 years into specific causes of food poisoning such as E. coli 0157, campylobacter and listeria.

Details of projects funded are listed in the Scottish Office Department of Health's health bulletin and Scottish Office Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries Department's programme of commissioned research and development publication. Research grant holders are encouraged to disseminate research findings as appropriate.
