HC Deb 17 December 1996 vol 287 c572W
Mr. Donohoe

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what types of financial assistance his Department provides to companies creating or safeguarding employment with proposed development within Scotland; and under what legislation these payments have been made. [6489]

Mr. Kynoch

[holding answer 28 November 1996]Grant assistance from the Scottish Office for these purposes is generally given under the powers of the Industrial Development Act 1982. The principal grant assistance scheme is regional selective assistance, for which the legislative authority is section 7 of that Act. Full details of assistance given under the Act are contained in the publication "Industrial Development Act 1982: Annual Report by the Secretaries for Trade and Industry, Scotland and Wales for the year ended 31 March 1996" London, HMSO, 1996.
