HC Deb 13 December 1996 vol 287 cc381-6W
Mr. Battle

To ask the President of the Board of Trade, pursuant to his oral answer to the hon. Member for East Antrim (Mr. Beggs) of 4 December,Official Report, column 1035, if he will list the 43 companies referred to and the projects in which they have taken part. [8530]

Mr. Page

The following tables set out the 43 companies that have a significant involvement in the clean coal technology programme and the projects in which they have taken part.

Notes:

  1. (a) For ease of reference the projects are grouped under sub-programme technical areas as follows:
    1. 0. Collaborative agreements
    2. 1. Coal Exploration and Extraction
    3. 2. Coal Preparation
    4. 3. Coal Handling and Supply
    5. 4. Coal Combustion in Conventional Utility Power Generation
    6. 5. Advanced Power Generation
    7. 6. Other Coal Conversion and Utilisation Processes
    8. 7. Technology Transfer and Commercialisation
  2. (b) The list of projects does not include those undertaken directly with universities or where the Department is participating directly in collaborative agreements with overseas organisations. In the latter case UK industry is actively involved in the agreements advising on the work programmes and evaluation of results. These agreements include the International Energy Agency's IEA clean coal centre and coal combustion sciences agreements.
