HC Deb 12 December 1996 vol 287 c320W
Mr. Jowell

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many(a) intensive care units, (b) intensive care beds, (c) paediatric intensive units and (d) paediatric intensive care beds there are by district health authority area. [8499]

Mr. Horam

Information on the provision of adult intensive care provision is not collected in the form requested. Information on the average daily number of available beds by broad ward classification for each national health service trust is published annually in "Bed Availability for England", copies of which are available in the Library.

Information on the number of paediatric intensive care units and beds is not routinely collected at present. However a survey of paediatric intensive care provision was undertaken earlier this year and the results published in a report on 29 May. This report by the chief executive of the national health service executive is entitled, "Paediatric Intensive Care" and is available in the Library.
