§ Mr. SpearingTo ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage what consultations she has had with 99W representatives of Christian denominations concerning her role in planning millennium activities. [7692]
§ Mrs. Virginia Bottomley[holding answer 6 December 1996]: The Archbishop of Canterbury's chaplain for public affairs sits on the Millennium co-ordinating group, a forum for various public bodies involved in planning for the millennium. A sub-committee brings together the mainstream Christian Churches, ecumenical groups and representatives of other faiths. The most recent meeting took place on 2 December, and the discussion was lively, far reaching and inclusive.
I shall be attending the next meeting, in January. The Millennium Commission has also held meetings with Church representatives.
