Mr. BowlsAn existing code of practice gives guidance on the safety of passengers in wheelchairs on buses including requirements for securing and clamping the wheelchair. This may be applied on a voluntary basis at the time of initial certification for manufacturers that seek approval to carry restrained wheelchairs in PSVs. We are currently considering the appropriate requirements for the carriage of wheelchair passengers in PSVs generally, including the circumstances where restraints are required. We are also working with wheelchair manufacturers to develop wheelchairs which are designed and tested for comparability with all forms of transport.
