Mr. Jim Cunningham

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment (1) what was the Teacher Training Agency's target for recruitment for each year since 1992, expressing the figures as a percentage change on the previous year; [6957]

(2) how much of the Teacher Training Agency's target for recruitment was achieved for each year since 1992, and if he will express the figures to indicate the percentage change on the previous year. [6958]

Targets for entry to courses of initial teacher training are set by the Secretary of State. Targets, and percentage changes from the previous year's targets, are given in table 1. Actual recruitment by institutions is set out on the same basis in table 2.
