The Home Secretary has asked me, in the absence of the Director General from the office, to reply to your recent Question about the education budget for each London prison in 1997.Budgets are allocated to prisons in financial years, running from April to March. The allocations for the financial year 1997–98 are expected to be agreed by the Prisons Board by February.The education budgets for London prisons in 1996–97 are shown in the attached table.
