To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what the prison education budget will be for each of the London prisons for 1997.[6211]

Responsibility for this matter has been delegated to the Director General of the Prison Service, who has been asked to arrange for a reply to be given.

Letter from Hugh Taylor to Mr. Tom Cox, dated 2 December 1996: The Home Secretary has asked me, in the absence of the Director General from the office, to reply to your recent Question about the education budget for each London prison in 1997. Budgets are allocated to prisons in financial years, running from April to March. The allocations for the financial year 1997–98 are expected to be agreed by the Prisons Board by February. The education budgets for London prisons in 1996–97 are shown in the attached table.
