§ Mr. KeyTo ask the Secretary of State for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will list those European Union countries where specified bovine offal as defined in the United Kingdom is removed from cattle on slaughter; and if he will make a statement. [23558]
§ Mrs. Browning[holding answer 1 April 1996]: On 4 April 1996, France introduced measures to require the removal and destruction of specified bovine offals, as defined in the UK, but only from animals born before 31 July 1991. Portugal applies SBO controls, but only to 416W animals culled from herds which have had a case of BSE. Belgium also has SBO controls, but is not clear whether these are the same as the controls applied in the UK. No other member states have SBO controls.
