HC Deb 29 April 1996 vol 276 c377W
Mr. Galbraith

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if the application from the Cairngorm chairlift company for financial assistance from Highlands and Islands Enterprise for an uplift facility at Cairngorm makes provision for any of the money or facilities established to be transferred, either wholly or in part, to the Cairngorm Mountain Railway Company Ltd.; and if, under the terms of the application, it would be possible to consider such a transfer in the future. [25914]

Mr. Kynoch

Ministers are currently considering an application by Highlands and Islands Enterprise for approval to incur expenditure related to the proposed Cairngorm funicular project. I am unaware of any provision in the application for the transfer of money or resources to the Cairngorm Mountain Railway Company.

The precise terms of the application for assistance made by the Cairngorm Chairlift Company to Highlands and Islands Enterprise are a matter for the enterprise organisation. However, as I pointed out in my answer to the hon. Member on 2 April at column 344, in the case of assistance provided by Highlands and Islands Enterprise it is a standard condition that the onward transfer of assets in respect of which financial assistance has been provided may not take place without the consent of that organisation.
